Scientists Discover Mysterious Force That Attracts Golf Balls to Water

“It’s Not Your Fault After All!”

In a groundbreaking scientific study released this week, researchers at the Institute for Golf-Related Physics (IGRP) have confirmed what frustrated golfers have long suspected: there is, in fact, an invisible, mysterious force that draws golf balls toward water hazards — regardless of skill, intent, or number of swing lessons purchased.

Dr. Irma McShank, lead researcher and 12-handicapper, explained the discovery during a press conference held suspiciously close to a pond on the 14th hole of the local municipal course.

“Our team has identified what we’ve dubbed Aquamagnetism,” she said. “It appears to be a naturally occurring force field generated by water hazards on golf courses. This field exerts an irresistible pull on golf balls, especially those freshly unboxed or struck with confidence.”

The study found the Aquamagnetism strangely gains force under the following conditions:

  • When a golfer says, “Just avoid the water.”
  • When betting is involved.
  • When a new ball is used.
  • And most critically, when there is only water on the right, and the golfer’s natural shot shape is — you guessed it — a slice.

“Even when golfers aim 40 yards left, the force somehow grabs the ball mid-flight and redirects it with supernatural precision,” said Dr. McShank, while casually fishing her Titleist out of the pond. “It’s like the Bermuda Triangle for golf balls.”

Golfers around the world are rejoicing at the news. “This explains everything,” said Tom Washman. “I used to think I just sucked. Turns out, I was battling an invisible aquatic forcefield. That’s science, baby!”

Golf course superintendents, however, are not convinced. “That ‘mysterious force’ pays for our new clubhouse,” one said, smirking. “We call it Lake Revenue.”

The IGRP is now investigating whether a similar force exists in bunkers, but early results are inconclusive — mostly because their research interns rarely remember to rake.
