The oldest golf club in the world!

In July of 2022, four of us crazy golfers made a trip to Scotland to play golf at some wonderful courses and then attend The Open.  A total bucket list trip.

On the day of The Open we walked the course and followed many of our favorite players.  As the tournament neared the end, the crowds got so overwhelming we could hardly see any players.

So we decided to head back towards Edinburgh and find a fine Scottish pub to watch the final few holes.  We found Ye Old Inn with a whole bunch of locals in attendance.

One of my partners struck up a conversation with a fellow who offered to take us to “The Oldest Golf Club In The World!”  “Only 5 minutes away” he tells us.  We needed to get back to the hotel to pack and get ready for our 4am journey home, but who could say no to the offer from the fine gentleman from Scotland?!

We all piled in the van with our new friend Colin Macartney.  Soon we were walking on the grounds of The Royal Burgess Golfing Society instituted in 1735.

The Society of Golfers in and around Edinburgh, known today as The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh, is widely recognized as the oldest Golf Club in the world.

I cant begin to describe all that’s here to learn.  Please visit their website for more about the clubs fascinating history.
